Put the important things in the right order.
Start with the reading order
Write the page’s main purpose in one sentence. Then arrange headings, explanations and actions in the order a visitor needs them. Visual prominence should follow importance, not the order components were designed.
Use a grid as a tool
Choose column widths and gaps that suit the content. Test long headings, short descriptions and missing images. A layout that only works with ideal copy will be difficult to maintain.
Check the narrow version early
Review the same content on a small screen and with enlarged text. Keep navigation usable, avoid horizontal scrolling and make the primary action understandable without hovering.
